AIRPORT HOTEL - SOUTH PORCUPINE

A fixture in South Porcupine, the Airport Hotel. There are no runways here but a haven for float planes as the hotel is at the shoreline of Porcupine Lake. The building is quite nice to look at but the real eye catcher is the neon airplane on the roof.

Someone was asking information about the hotel. I would suggest contacting the Timmins Museum or City Hall. Good luck! Write back if you had any luck.

TIMMINS AND DISTRICT HOSPITAL

Took this picture on Toke Street, just north of Rochester. The new hospital is huge!

Many changes to the old building as it's being turned into a a manor / retirement home.
You can see in the background the east side is almost completed.

THE OLD EMPIRE HOTEL

Nice to see there's still life after the hotel folded. It's now a seniors home.

Sure miss the Fountain Court Room days and the all-you-can-eat weekend buffets.

SAND BOXES

Once winter arrives in Timmins, salt won't help melt ice in sub zero temperatures. Sand is the answer! These plastic yellow sand boxes are located everywhere and are used on public sidewalks and on the roadways. In the old days, the boxes were narrower and made of wood.

NEW TIMMINS BUS TERMINAL

The city chose a nice location for the new bus terminal hub for the city at the old railway station. The ONR bus service is located at the same place too. Note how big city buses are these days.

KAMISKOTIA HILL

This hill looks like a mountain from the city centre but seems a tad low up close. Nevertheless, Kathy Kreiner honed her skiing skills here and was the sole gold winner for Canada in giant slalom at the 1976 winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Way to go Kathy!

TIMMINS POUTINE - CHEZ-NOUS STORE

This was my second time in my life having poutine and this one was a disappointment. Room temperature fries and cold gravy on top of the cheese curds. The curds were quite thick and delicious though. Hope they can figure out a way to serve it hot someday.

I went there because Shania Twain was a regular way back when and even returned for a feature video.  lol

Ok... I was kind of hoping she would have been there. <grin>

NEW TRAILER HITCH

TRAILER IS A BIT WIDE FOR CITY STREETS.  ha ha

SANTA IN TIMMINS

SANTA WARNING ME TO BE GOOD
Wow, a real treat to be in Timmins on the same day Santa came to town! He did warn me to be good for Christmas, while looking straight at my camera. I promised to behave until then.

RAVEN AT THE HOLLINGER PARK, TIMMINS (video)

This raven wanted to break the ice on the frozen puddle. It pecked on it and even stomped on it. It was at that location for over half an hour.

THE STRANGE BUILDING ON PINE STREET SOUTH, TIMMINS, ONTARIO

*** UPDATE: The building was a former grocery store. Due to expensive demolition costs, the current owners have chosen to use it as a warehouse. Wonder if the roof leaks?

This building has been on Pine Street South in Timmins, Ontario for at least 70 years and has never been painted.

Check out the double locks on the door.

SNAKE TREE, TIMMINS (SOUTH PORCUPINE) ONTARIO

THIS OLD ROTTING TREE MADE ME STOP ON MY TRACKS.
I CALL THIS PICTURE THE 'SNAKE TREE.'
IT'S BEHIND THE AIRPORT HOTEL IN TIMMINS, ONTARIO ON GOLDEN AVENUE.
JUST IMAGINE WALKING THERE ON A FOGGY EVENING...

RECYCLED BIKE IN UXBRIDGE

SPOTTED THIS BIKE WHILE DRIVING AROUND UXBRIDGE.

IT WAS SUGGESTED A BLACK AND WHITE VERSION WOULD GIVE THE PHOTO AN OLD-FASHIONED FEEL TO IT.
MUST AGREE, IT DOES.

TIMMINS MOOSE

A moose crosses the main highway not far from downtown Timmins, Ontario.
I whistled at it and it slowed down to look my way.

TORONTO AEROSPACE MUSEUM, DOWNSVIEW AIRPORT
Not the real thing but sure looks it. A prime minister scrapped production of the plane. A real shame.
